A digital representation of Corent, a 1st century BC oppidum in modern south-central France, probably the old capital of the Arverni tribe. The representation was made according to the findings of the excavations, as it occurs for all the architectural representations in the present website.
The image depicts among other buildings, the large rectangular sanctuary, the market place (on the center) and a hemicycle theater-like building which were excavated on the site of Corent.
The Arverni were one of the most powerful and influential tribes of ancient Gaul. Vercingetorix, one of the greatest politico-military personalities of Antiquity (and one of my favourites) was an Arvernian warlord.
