An architectural scale model of the palace area of Ayutthaya city.
Ayutthaya was a city and capital of a Tai kingdom of the same name (Ayutthaya) in Thailand, actually the ancestor of the modern state of Thailand. The city was founded in 1349 and at its height had possibly a population of around 200,000 inhabitants according to a modern estimate.

Ayutthaya’s decline started in 1767 when it was sacked by the invading army of Myanmar.
